Re: After 11 years of German bikes, I've made the step towards..

He has had it 3 years Mr P ;-) I really liked mine, very reliable and robust bikes. I really like both the KTM's I have, but really not keen on the latest BMW's / KTM's with:- * Semi-Active suspension (tried both BMW and KTM systems and neither are as good as the conventional WP kit on my 1190) * Co...

I had one and vowed "never again"...

...although I only moved over the border to Austria for my new bikes. They seem to have a much better understanding of fun.

Re: Any plans?

You may find Wales and Lake district a bit disappointing after the Alps, especially in peak UK holiday season.

Let me know if you want any recommendations for routes etc. I am not really an expert on these places, but have been to them a few times.

Bike storage in Pyrenees

Ok, wrong location, but might be of interest to some of the folks here; http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/478800-Park-n-Ride-Pyrenees-anyone-interested 25 Euros a month sounds cheap to me, if I had a spare bike, and wanted to ride the Pyrenees a few times a year this would be very tempting.

"And, if your line of work permits, you may be able to actually work from that same balcony."

If I could do that I would no longer be living in the UK.

Re: Facebook touring groups.

We are staying in Barcelonnette from the 4th - 6th July and Tignes on the 7th, then onto Pontarlier and then Luxembourg. Another challenge I have with trips is aligning them with work, as I am self employed taking time out from well paying contracts is not ideal, so the dates were based on going awa...

Re: Facebook touring groups.

Karza and Kris are correct, it is not really "too far" and that alone would be a poor excuse, but we fancied a change as much as anything, our "Alps" trip this year is 10 nights, only 4 of them are actually in the Alps. We are also trying to see some of the stuff we did not manag...

Re: Facebook touring groups.

Keep in touch guys, I think you all have my e-mail, I too am missing AR 2018 as Austria is a bit of a drag to get to, and I am not all that keen on the roads once there, neither the Grossglochner or Nockalm impressed me any more than the Stelvio. I might tag onto another trip to Andermatt later this...

Re: Facebook touring groups.

Not on Facebook, or Whassup Doc, or any of the other anti-social media / identity theft sites. I like this site a lot, advrider does have a decent travel section with banter similar to this, although not dedicated to the Alps obviously, and ukgser is also pretty decent.... ...what they lack are Frie...

Have they ever answered: Why are they so shite ? And How come when you are on a ride with 3 friends who all have the same route on a Garmin and you approach a roundabout with an option to go Straight, Left or Right each device will choose a different option ? (commonly known as the "Garmin Star...

Re: Grand Alps - Early June

That's good to know, I certainly enjoyed the run around the Lake near Livigno with Michael and Chris last year so might do a lap here, the Mrs can either join me or watch from a safe piece of tarmac.

Re: Grand Alps - Early June

Thanks Chris, Looks like another good option, it only adds 10 miles / 20 minutes so will probably decide on the day, both routes looks good and both will be new to us, just the choice of fast and smooth versus bumpy and scenic. Not that it matters much as we will be coming back to this area again as...

Re: Grand Alps - Early June

Thanks fella's. Planned it out and it looks like an option, already booked a Hotel in Tignes and plan on coming up from Barcelonnette (or thereabouts) Assuming dead easy, smooth, shallow gravel and the Mrs wants to take the KTM 1090 I might be able to work this in, but it is showing as adding about ...

Re: Grand Alps - Early June

Slight change of plan now. Due to the way work is panning out we will be going the 1st two weeks of July so should have no such worries. A question for the collective. Heading North up RDGA is it worth takin Mont Cenis for a change? I have ridden Galibier both ways, as I remember heading North the r...

Re: French national speed limit reduction

The problem with many laws is they are very black and white when the real world requires a degree of common sense - which is far from common and not compatible with Government desire to use computers to make all decisions. It is illegal in the UK for me to operate the sat-van on my motorcycle, just ...
