Re: BMW Final Drive Failures & general Marque-Bashing

You know by now that I feel strongly about pissing on any brand of motorcycle or pissing on people because they ride a particular brand of motorcycle. I explained that to MJ a few minutes ago in response to a PM he sent to me. I usually share don't PM content but will share with you my response to M...

Re: BMW Final Drive Failures & general Marque-Bashing

Yes, it is you, the all knowing one.  Actually the later model airheads were notorious for electrical issues, but who am I to question the wisdom of the Grand Poobah! Sorry MJ, it Seems to me only a hater, or one of the 3rd grade girls, would open a thread titled: BMW Final Drive F...

Re: BMW Final Drive Failures & general Marque-Bashing

I've read threads like this on other forums. .......... Let's Ride! I must be out riding my Super Teneré'! Yes sir the hater are everywhere, I expect that mentality on brand specific site where the fan boy cool aid drinking kids spend their time. I thought AR was a safe haven but now the haters are...

Re: BMW Final Drive Failures & general Marque-Bashing

I feel the way I do MJ because of the constant bashing of BMW,BMW riders and often the same for H-D. It brinks nothing new to the table, and certainty no useful information that pertains to current production models. I see it as nothing more then whining. Reminds me a third grade girls who have noth...

Re: BMW Final Drive Failures & general Marque-Bashing

"A look round the bike park at an AR re union shows that we all have differing tastes and there is no dominant choice of bike....vive la difference." I'm with you on that Mr. Raven! =D> Some folks just need to bash any bike they don't own. I not sure if it envy or just hate.... So sad real...

Re: New Africa Twin?

Jeeez, just when I thought we were getting back on topic... :( :( And those few references you posted aren't bad for a run of well over 500,000 GS's! :P As I said Mj, none of them are perfect and the 2004-2008 boxer final drives did have some issues. Seem the final drive of the Dual Cam bikes and th...

Re: New Africa Twin?

So how many documented cases are there? Depends on your criteria for "documented". Quite a few in the LD riding community - to the point that at least one rider carried a spare final drive on his IBR ride. Mj, as I said earlier, none are perfect. But to me it sounds a bit paranoid and obs...

Re: New Africa Twin?

I call Bull Shit on the "ever worsening build quality / reliability" of BMW, spoken like an uninformed ST rider. What info ya got to back up that statement? By the time my GS was the same age and mileage as my Super Tenere it had been to the dealer for: 2 Warped Discs 2 Blown Fork ...

Re: New Africa Twin?

And, of course, the tendency of Oil Heads to shed final drive bearings like a long haired cat sheds hair in the summer. So how many documented cases are there? Oh, I know you read it on the internet, or saw that same picture that's been posted thousands of times, so it must be true! Perhaps n...

Re: New Africa Twin?

In the UK BMW have the best showrooms, latest technology - and ever worsening build quality / reliability. The typical GS is not about £14,000 OTR  Honda now insist on Solus dealers. Many other shops will do 2-3 of the other Jap brands, My Yamaha dealer also does Suzuki, Kawasaki, Triumph, V...

Re: New Africa Twin?

But I cannot see why it costs any more to produce a twin cylinder motorcycle than it does a triple, and same number of wheels, tyres handlebars etc. My point is they could go all BMW / KTM and ply it as a "premium" bike, in the UK the bottom end of the KTM / BMW bikes is about £12,000, th...

Re: 9th Alpineroads.com-meet 2015 "Nockalm"

I sent this to John 10 days ago. No response so far: "John, I'm very sorry that I was unable to make it this year. If you were able to rent out the room that I had reserved to another person, I would greatly appreciate the return of the €15 deposit. If you weren't, then the deposit is obviousl...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3174222/I-won-t-careful-Prophetic-words-Briton-crashed-edge-one-Europe-s-highest-roads.html Conflicting early reports. Fact is it's tragic. I too am surprised, but happy, this sort of thing doesn't happen more often. Tragic indeed, but if they where racing th...
