@#$&?+# weather

Postby Michael J » Tue Aug 08, 2017 8:09 am

RoadRunner Magazine has an annual "Touring Weekend", which I signed up for last November. Fees paid, hotel reserved, etc. etc.

It's this coming weekend - I leave on Thursday and come back on Sunday (or Monday). About 630KM of mostly Interstate (Motorway) each way.

Would anyone care to guess what the forecast weather (to include the slogs down and back) for the event is?

Rhetorical question. Just wanted to vent.

Plus I've misplaced my GPS that gets direct satellite weather feeds. Took it off the bike in May and haven't the foggiest idea where I put it. It's not in ANY of the places that it should be.

Sigh...

Everyone knows it will be in the last place you look, so look there first.

I'm going through the places where it shouldn't be. Slow process - by definition, they're almost infinite. Fortunately, it's rather large, so it's harder to hide.

I considered getting another, but it's a discontinued unit and maps are no longer available for it. Used ones are selling for about what they sold for new.

Not sure how this thing helps you, just like shit, Weather Happens

Knowing that it is likely to rain heavily shortly just robs you off some of the time where you could still be hoping for the best.

As has been noted - there's no such thing as bad weather - just inappropriate clothing.

But I do like some types of weather better than others.

Looking at the photo in your link, your unit says there's a cold front across Delaware, lots of cloud over Virginia but blue sky further west.
That any good for you?

That pic is more than a few years old. Was meant to illustrate the misplaced GPS and its capabilities. Still haven't found it, and will really miss it on this ride. Not that it actually matters - wet is wet. I just like to know HOW wet. Preferably in advance.

I'm packed and just have a few loose ends to tend to and I'll be out of here within the hour. Luckily against the flow of rush hour traffic.

Funny you should mention that...

Not a bad day. Prepared for the worst, and just got a little slap. only about 50kms of rain out of 630, and only about 5 of that was heavy.
