Looking at the alternative routes - https://goo.gl/nIYIux - It appears that you CAN'T get there from here.

At least, not without a lot of trouble.

Sorry for the shortened link, but the original link was very long.

Can you define the location of "here" and the location of "there" as I have no idea were you are saying we cannot get to and from

This tunnel was originally on my "Rainy Day Route" but it looks like regardless of weather I will have to take my "Sunny Day Route" which runs North of the Alrberg Tunnel taking some German roads before dropping down to Austria on the Fern Pass.

My return route runs just above the Motorway using the Hochtanberg Pass and Hahntenjoch - These might be a bit busier with some of the diverted traffic choosing to take this route :?:

Sorry - it's an old joke where a traveler asks a local how to get to some place, and the reply is "You can't get there from here". Seems to be more of a New England sort of thing - properly told with a "Down East" Maine accent.

Guess that it doesn't work in Old England.

Ah - if you'd done it with an Irish accent we would have understood it

Rasher - Hahntenjoch is a much better bet than Fernpass for your sunny day route. In fact the weather would have to be really bad for me to take the Fernpass.

Thanks Chris,

The problem is we have to get from Triberg - Arabba, using the Fern Pass it is about 6.5 hours riding, the H-Joch would add an hour on a good day, and with the tunnel closure is more likely to have extra traffic on it as it runs parallel to the closed motorway section.

Be nice to add the Fern Pass to my list anyway, plus it will be the first pass of the trip so will seem pretty decent, on the way back we have a lot more time and will be using the H-J and friends.
