Larger Avatars

Postby Global Rider » Mon Apr 03, 2006 3:59 am

Tim,

Although a 90x90 pixel - 6 Kb Avatar might be large enough for an icon, it is a bit too small for a small pic of a rider and their bike which I would sooner see than an icon.

It would be nice to see who we are communicating with.

I have the same avatar on my HD in 100x100, 128x128, 140x140 and 150x150, the largest being 22Kb. I wish forums would standardize on a size, the latter two sizes where you can actually make out some detail.
All the best,
Alex

I had the standard settings from the installation active.
I've set it up for 150x150 now. Try it and see. If people think it's too big, then I can reduce it a bit untill everyone's happy.

When I get time (soon-ish) I'll also add new more relevant fields to the personal profile as well.

That size is ideal without being too large, but the 6 Kb limitation is what does it. I saved my avatar at the lowest possible quality (0, Low) in Photoshop and a 150x150 pic is still 12 Kb and at that appears fuzzy.

Edited to add: don't use Upload Avatar from a URL option, instead use Link to off-site Avatar option. Using the Upload option still limits you to the 6 Kb size, the Link option doesn't.

I use Image Shack for my photo hosting. It is free.
All the best,

Alex
