Just stumbled across this the other day - an alternative route to Col de la Madeleine - looks like there may be paved and unpaved alternatives, and looks quite spectacular.
Anyone here done it?

Re: Alternative to Col de la Madeleine
Almost. I rode the Lacets de Montvernier in 2016, but didn't know about the road to Montpascal. Definitely would have ridden it.
One more added to the list.

Re: Alternative to Col de la Madeleine
Done it twice allready, nothing to worry about. The unpaved section of Col du Chausy towards the Madeleine is ok on any all-road, and on a dry day I'd even do it on a roadbike.
The hairpins are nuts, going up is in first gear, no use of going to second gear. Going down gives you a wee bit more time to look around and enjoy the view, riding up is just focussing on the road, fingers crossed no cager is coming down
Grtz, Philip!

Re: Alternative to Col de la Madeleine
From Col du Chaussy to Madeleine, is it still unpaved?

Re: Alternative to Col de la Madeleine
There's still a few km's of unpaved part yes.

Re: Alternative to Col de la Madeleine
So whats that location of the unpaved section? Is it in the end near Col de la Madeleine?
Re: Alternative to Col de la Madeleine
Yep, I'd say about the last five km's before you reach the second to last hairpin (45.426288, 6.373275) on the southside of the Madeleine. I think my picture was taken on this point: 45.401248, 6.358523
In Bonvilard you keep right instead of following the D99, you pass a small lake, still tarmac, road keeps climbing and I guess from Chapelle Saint Marguerite it becomes an unpaved road.
